Our Favorite Rides

Central Oregon boasts over 900 miles of singletrack, thousands of miles of gravel, and some of the country's most acclaimed road rides. This vast frontier of diverse terrain is punctuated by stunning mountain views and picturesque high desert scenery, making it a true gem for any cyclist looking to explore the Wild West.

Mountain:

Peterson Ridge

This Sisters classic was originally constructed in 1989 as a mountain bike trail network made up of a combination of single-track and old forest service roads.

The trails are fairly level and mostly free of technical obstacles (although some lines do have rocks and roots to negotiate). The trail network is popular with Sisters’ residents by bike and foot.

If you're looking for something more technical and fast, go up to Trail 99.

Gravel:

Cowboy Preacher

This ride is a circumnavigation of the Whychus Canyon and includes a stop at historic Camp Polk and a classic wilderness crossing of Whychus Creek. You bike through the Crooked River National Grasslands with views of the snow capped Cascades in the distance. 

The route is not necessarily demanding regarding distance and elevation gain — but there is a section where the gravel road is a chunker...

Road:

McKenzie Pass

The most spectacular road ride in Central Oregon. It leads to a lava-rock moonscape at the top that spreads out for miles. It’s stark and barren. It’s awe-inspiring. It’s unlike anything you’ll probably ever encounter on a ride again. It also showcases forests on both the east and west sides of the Cascades – and after you’ve pedaled through them, you’ll know the difference between the “dry side” and the “wet side.” It also provides at least one lung-expanding climb – two if you do the whole thing out and back.
